‘August’ comes from the mind of newcomer, Michael B Thomas. The Leeds-based singer-songwriter has established a lo-fi indie folk sound that allows crisp, atmospheric textures to collide with effortlessly melodic vocal lines. You can feel the influence of Elliot Smith and The Velvet Underground in his colourful lyricism and wistful folk arrangements. “Your teenage and young adult years can be a very scary experience, they can also be fun, passionate, daring and hugely impactful,” he explains. “I wanted to identify this and the transition into adulthood not only from my own perspective but from the perspective of the people around me.” Michael B Thomas, who is the live keyboard player for EADES, is gearing up to drop a collection of tracks later this year. -Dan Peeke.
